Any Ideas?

My school system has us teaching culture for the first 6 weeks of school. We don't have to teach it everyday but I'm at a loss for any cute activities to do with culture. We already went over family traditions and watched some videos from Unitedstreaming. I would like to do something fun to teach culture. Any ideas or resources that you use?

Don't forget to enter my giveaway for a $20 gift certificate to TPT before Wednesday night. Click here to enter.

Three for Thursday

I'm participating in the Three for Thursday at Blog Hoppin'.  I've enjoyed reading other people's posts and I am finding some great new fonts and resources.

 My favorite fonts
I'll admit it. I'm a font junkie. So I can't really decide which font is my favorite.
Here's some fonts I love and use the most. Click on them to go to the websites for the downloads.

 from Lettering Delights
 from Fontspace
from Kevin and Amanda

My favorite blog
I decided to pick two 2nd grade blogs that I love and that offer lots of great ideas.  You should definitely check out these two blogs.

My favorite online resource

I am obsessed with Pinterest. I have found so many great ideas for my classroom and my home. Another great resource for math is Mathwire. They have many games and templates for math.

P.S. I'm looking for one more follower to get to 200 so I can have a great giveaway.

Where It All Goes Down

Today is classroom photo day at Blog Hoppin'. I can't wait to see everyone's classroom photos. I get so many great ideas from peeks into other people's classrooms. I hope you enjoy my classroom photos. I've posted about my classroom twice already so I'm linking to my previous posts. Enjoy!

Mini Offices and Word Wall Freebie

I've been working on creating new mini offices for my students with easy references for math, reading, and writing. They can use it to help them when working individually instead of interrupting me to ask a question. I've found some great resources online to put in the folder.

I love these writing resources from Mrs. Gilchrist's class.

Amazing blends and digraphs chart from Castles and Crayons.

I love this reading picture from Teaching in Flip Flops.

A doubles poster from Teacher's Clubhouse.

A great color 100s chart from Super Teacher Worksheets
And here's a word wall chart for all you Treasures teachers. There are two charts because I printed two per page so they would fit well on a file folder. Click on the image to get a copy.

Quick Question

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a great week. This is my first week of school with kids and I can already tell it's going to be an interesting year. I've started the Daily 5 and we are working on Read to Self right now. My kids seem to really love having their own book boxes and keep asking to spend more time reading.

As I've been doing the anchor charts for the Daily 5, I've realized that I need an easel. I've looked at some online and I'm not sure which one would be the best. Do you have an easel that you really love? I would love to find one that doesn't take up too much space but holds a good size piece of chart paper.

Science and Social Studies Standards and a Thank You

Quite a few people have emailed me to ask if I could create science and social studies cards to go with my Common Core Standards packet. Since science and social studies have not adopted any common core standards yet, I created some cards with the Tennessee standards. They are now available of TPT and Teacher's Notebook.

Thank you to everyone who commented on my classroom photos! It really made my day to read what you wrote. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

More classroom photos

I've finally finished setting up most of my classroom. After the new evaluation training today, I hope to plan the first day of school. We only have a half day of school the first day so the day really flies.

My welcome board - I made a surfboard for each child out of scrapbook paper and placed their name on the edge.  I really love how my palm trees turned out. I'm a big fan of fabric on bulletin boards. I think it makes the boards look so much sharper and it lasts so much longer than paper.
Since I rarely use my whiteboard because I have an Activboard, I thought that would be a good place to place the student friendly standards for the day.
Sorry for the blurry picture. Our classroom lights are so bright that it's hard to take a good picture. This is a picture of my leveled library and series books. I have themed books and individual book boxes on other bookshelves.
My crate seats have been a big hit with other teachers and the students that have seen them. I placed extra books that I can't fit in my library within the crates to keep them from moving all over the place.
My listening station

I hope you have a great Friday! I plan on finishing science and social studies cards this weekend to go along with the common core standards cards. Since science and social studies haven't changed to the common core standards, I hope to include standards that can be used in several different states.

Some Classroom Photos

I'm linking up with the linky party at Curls and a Smile to share my classroom photos. Make sure to check out everyone else's great ideas.

My classroom is almost ready. We have a meet and greet with parents and students tomorrow night so I've been trying to get almost everything done. I didn't get as much done today as I hoped due to internet issues at school. Our first day with students isn't until Monday so some things will have to wait. I hope to take more pictures tomorrow.

Is anyone else as obsessed with Command Hooks like I am? These are my Advisor Visors for student helpers.
My small group area is still messy.
My favorite part of my classroom, the Activboard, and my calendar.
 My word wall
A great way to keep students from asking, "What time is lunch?" every single day. These are foam clocks from Target's Dollar Spot.
My writing board - I will add strategies as I teach them.
My CAFE board and a place to put anchor charts.
 My buckets from Target
Our hallway board for 2nd grade created by my teammate Heather and me
Inspired by this one from Pinterest

My pictures of my front bulletin board didn't turn out so I'll have more tomorrow.
