Common Core Standards for 2nd grade

August 3, 2011

These past few weeks, I have been to several meetings that have focused on our new evaluation process in my district. One major part of it is the standards. Teachers have to have them posted in the actual standard language but also posted for the students in student friendly language. So I’ve been working on creating standards cards in both formats.

I plan on copying them on cardstock and laminating them. Then punching a hole in the top corner and using a ring to keep the different subjects together. I am going to put the teacher versions near my teacher table. I will put the student versions on a bulletin board and just flip through the different ones each day instead of having to search to find them every day. I hope you can use these!
Both resources come together for a total of 98 pages. You can find the zip file at TPT and Teacher’s Notebook and it is on sale until the end of the week.

  1. Love your blog! I teach second grade is Southern Utah. Thanks for all the valuable resources. I just bought the core standards packet!!

  2. Hey Courtney,
I'm a second grade teacher about 25 miles west of Knoxville (we're neighbors!) 🙂 We are also gearing up (training) for the new evaluation system…fun times. Thank you, for this great resource…we had done the same thing with the old standards and were gearing up to do the same with the new standards. You just saved me a few precious hours!

  3. I love your kid friendly terms for common core. We have had to have our objectives posted for the past three years. It can be a pain sometimes but it makes the kids responsible for understanding what we are doing. Thanks so much.

  4. We are just now beginning the process of transitioning to the Common Core Standards in California. Thanks for these! It helps me understand the Common Core a bit more

  6. Does anyone know of any pacing charts or curriculum maps for 2nd grade. I am trying to figure out the best times to teach everything and what assessments I will use for each standard. Any help would be appreciated!

    1. Courtney,
Can you show us what your district does for you? My district also has us digging through curriculum and playing match up. It is so frustrating and extremely time consuming. I feel it is pitting teachers against each other with all the pressure to implement the new common core this year.

    2. Hi! My district is currently working on something but it isn't ready yet. I am not sure I can share it because I didn't create it. I'll see if I can find something for you.

  7. I teach second grade. In my district we make our own pacing guide and assessments. This is very time consuming. We are in the process of deconstructing standards as well- very long tedious process . We ate a small district- only 5 second grade teachers. This is so much work to add to the daily grind. I've been trying to find a guide to use as an example, but have been unsuccessful. Why are we recreating the wheel if this has already been done?

  8. Can I kiss you now or would that be inappropriate? My district has been pushing Common Core for the last 2 years, but it's so time consuming… Thank you so much for creating these cards and letting us use them! You're the best!!!

  9. A. I love these posters! This is an awesome idea.
    B. I could not find them on TpT! Crazy–I searched and searched.
Finally, I found your blog. Thank you. Love these!
