I love finding new books to read aloud to my class. Last year, I moved up to 2nd grade and kept some of my same students so I had to find a whole new set of books to read aloud to the class. I found a set of amazing books last fall and I am still in love with them. The stories are funny and cute. The illustrations are amazing. And the kids love them! You have to check them out. They are great easy chapter books for first graders and second graders.
There are 6 books in the series and they all feature the toast-loving pig, Mercy Watson. After we read all 6 books last year, my kids were so devastated that there weren’t any more books. We have finished reading the first 3 books so far this year and my class is loving reading about Mercy’s adventures.
The author has even made a teacher’s guide to go with the books and there is a fun website for kids to play games. Check it out here.

Absolutely adore Mercy Watson and Kate DiCamillo. Somebody needs to make a unit to go with these wonderful books!

ooh! I LOVE this Linky Party!! I'm going to do it tomorrow when I get home from work!
P.S. LOVE Kate DiCamillo!!
And the Gonney Bird Green that Honey Bunch already linked up!
My theme this year is Magic Treehouse. I have started reading each day after lunch with the lights out. We began with the first book and will continue to read a chapter of each book every day throughout the year. I am hoping to get through most of the series. After each chapter, we work together to write a sticky note with the main idea and a few details. We read the note each day before going on to read the next chapter. At the end of the book, the students illustrate their favorite part of the story. At the end of the school year, I will bind all of the pages and they will have a picture of their favorite part of each magic treehouse book in the series. I also require my students to write a sticky note at the end of each chapter of their DEAR books in class.
Great Idea for a Linky Party! I always love to find new read aloud books!

I just found out today that the illustrator of the Mercy Watson books is our visiting author/illustrator at our school this year!

I've always wanted to do an author study on Kate DiCamillo. When I taught 5th grade last year we did a GREAT study on Tiger Rising and Tale of Despereaux.
Oh, I just love this linky party! Great idea! I will have to add to it tonight!
