I am completely ready for the long weekend and hoping for a snow day tomorrow. We don’t get many snow days in Knoxville because the winter weather just passes right over us. This was our first week back since Christmas vacation and I am so tired. We’ve been pretty busy this week on our skills. We are working on comparing and contrasting. I love teaching this skill because there is so much to do with it. We have been reading about animals so we had this anchor chart to remind us about comparing and contrasting.
I’m linking up with the Anchor Chart party at Ms. M’s blog. Check out the great anchor charts found there from many different blogs.
We also read this really cute book that I saw on Pinterest. In the book, a moose ends up in a nest of ducks and the mother duck thinks he is her baby. Well, obviously, he can’t do anything that ducks can do. The narrator has a funny way of speaking and the kids thought it was hilarious.
We compared it to the Hans Christian Anderson version of “The Ugly Duckling” using this Venn diagram.
We are going to use it to help us write sentences comparing and contrasting the book. I also made a sign to hang with their writing.
We have also been working on the ar and or sounds. I found these great videos about r-controlled vowels. My kiddos love to sing this year so I am taking advantage of it.
Thanks for the freebie and the links! I am doing the Animal Baths story form Treasures next week, so I can't wait to check all these resources out! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

I love that r-controlled vowels video! My reading program has me introducing -er, but none of the other ones. I might show it anyway. 🙂 Thanks!

These are awesome! I love the videos and can't wait to use the venn diagram with my kiddos in the coming weeks!
