  1. We have the children bring their supplies to the Open House before school starts so I have time to check that names are on all the items and then I place them in ditto boxes and store them in my closet. Of course there are children who do not come to the Open House.

  2. I have done supplies different every year. I haven't figured out how I want to do it this year. Last year, I had the kids pick up a supplies form and keep it with their items. I went around during specials and checked off what they had and didn't have.

  3. I have labeled tubs for each type of item…pencils, glue sticks, etc… Then I have my students keep what they need and put the rest in the tubs.

  4. I have the kids put their supplies on top of their cubby. Then after school I sort through them all. I collect the community items and store them. The items I want them to keep I place in their cubby.

    I love the checklist idea above. I may have to try it!

  5. I organize all my supplies by taking up the extra ones and storing them on the shelf. We label all student materials and they keep their supplies they will need everyday with them.

  6. Everything comes out of the backpack onto the desktop. It's like Christmas! I store tissues and hand sanitizer in the closet and then the kids keep their own supplies in the desk. I collect all the extra glue sticks in a basket for refills. I like the kids to keep their own stuff. We work on being responsible that way.

  7. I have paper grocery sacks in the back of the room that I drop the supplies into. At lunch or by end of the day, I will have put all community supplies in their containers and stored the extras in my cabinets.

    I want the focus of that morning to be on greeting my students and their parents so this way works for me. It's the only day they will all come in at the same time, so it would be a bit overwhelming for me/them if I try to organize supplies then.

  8. I have Rubbermaid boxes for things like paper towels, tissue, and Ziploc bags. The kids each have a basket at their desk for the supplies that stay with them. Their extra supplies go in a storage sized Ziploc with their names on them that then go into a either a purple (girls) or green (boys) file crate to be stored until they are needed.

  9. I haven't had to organize supplies yet (just graduated!) but I plan to have bins for each type of supply in my cabinets. This will keep things organized and the children will know where things are! 🙂

  10. I collect all of the goodies that the students bring in and store them in my cupboards.

    I have my students seated in groups, so each group has a bin that contains scissors, crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, etc. So when we are completing an activity that needs these items, the group leader goes to get the bin for their group. Works perfectly! It also prevents those crayon boxes from overflowing and spilling every time I say, "please get out your scissors!"

  11. This will be my first year teaching and I'm *hoping* that many students will bring their supplies on Meet the Teacher night. We do community supplies at my school so I'm going to have students just sort their supplies into labeled bins! and I will have their table baskets filled already!

  12. Their art supplies go in a ziploc baggie with a name tag on it. Each table has a basket for their baggies. All other supplies(paper towels, soap, etc.) go in specific boxes or bags and get stored in the closet.

  13. On the first day I have a pencil box with crayons, pencil and eraser on the kids' desks. As they being in other supplies, my mom (who's usually with me on the first day) stacks them on the counter, sorting out the items I want to keep, those I'll send home, and those I'll take to the office. I'm so lucky to have her help.

  14. Usually I have had the kids keep their supplies in their own desks. This year we will have cubbies in our new classrooms, so I have a tub for each kid where they can put their supplies. Hooray for not having to take away supplies this year when they pull them out to play with them!

  15. Our school provides the supplies, which I keep in a basket for each table. Eliminates someone cutting up our reading book during math!

  16. This year my group will have desks, so a lot of their stuff will be placed ON their desks. I also have cupboard space for things like tissues, paper towels, baggies, etc. I will use bins for pencils, dry-erase markers, etc. I also am using bins for each child to place art supplies. They fit in a shelf so I can store the items out of the way.

  17. This is my first year with my own room-I have been a special ed teacher. I plan to have kids place everything out on desks, then gather community items in designated areas. I will then assist students in organuzing items they will keep at their desks.

  18. I have a container for everything. They keep 2 pencils, crayons, scissors, and one glue stick. All of their other pencils, glue sticks, and erasers go in a bag with their number on it. That way they are not losing extra supplies. They come to me and I give them what they need when needed. I might make this a job this year.

  19. I am going to try the group drawer method to keep everything in one place and it is easier to take away and add things they might need for the day. I also have extras housed on shelves in clear containers with labels.

  20. At my school, we have to keep the childrens supplies seperate (we can't make them community property). So I usually just keep them im large Publix paper bags until I have the time to put names on everything and find a place for everything.

  21. This is always the hardest thing to cope with on the first day! This year I'm going to try something different! I'm getting brown paper bags, putting names on the front and taping the supply list on the back. Each child is going to empty the backpack into the bag and then I will go through and sort.

  22. I struggle with supplies every year. Last year was the first time I've had desks. I had previously used community supplies with tables. When I got desks I tried to have individual supplies. I can see the benefit of having personal supplies, but my classroom seemed to flow better with community supplies. I will be on the look out to see what others are doing.

  23. If they bring them in on Meet the Teacher I put all their supplies in big brown bags from a local grocery store. I put each child's name on the bag. I put those supplies away after the students leave. I will keep the bags out for the first week and continue to put the supplies away at the end of each day.

  24. Most students bring them in during our Meet and Greet the Thursday before school starts. I have a bin for each type of supply and they all go in there until we need them!

  25. I have a big brown bag for each student with their name on it layed out on my back table. As the students arrive I have them unpack their supplies and put the comminity supplies for the classroom in the brown bag with their name on it. If the students bring personal suppies like their own markers, scissors, crayons, etc. I have them keep it in their desk. During special or after school I go through the supplies and organize them.
