Smart Start and book labels

July 11, 2012

Our Treasures reading series begins with a week called “Smart Start” where we review short vowel sounds and do some read-aloud stories.  I find this week so boring so I usually do a lot of my own thing while hitting the skills. I had a request from a follower to create a pack to use during this week so I tried to include some games and fun activities for the week.

You can find this unit in both of my stores.

I also added two new sets of book basket labels with no backgrounds as a freebie in my TPT store. Click on the pictures to get the freebies.

  1. Thanks for the book labels, they are perfect! I see you are from Knoxville, I am visiting my dad and he lives right outside of Knoxville, I was thinking of going to McKay's used book store, have you ever been? Is it worth it? Thanks for all you do!

    1. I love McKay's. You should definitely go. I recommend going early because it can get really crowded. Also, if you are looking for a certain item, take a list. There are so many books in a small space that it can be hard to find anything (in the children's section especially).

  2. I love your stuff for Treasures. I have seriously bought so many of your packets especially for the last stories when all the fun holiday things have ran out. I love that you have made one for the smart start. I seriously hated teaching that one. Now I can do something fun with my students instead. Thanks!

  3. Your blog is great. I totally agree with you about Start Smart (and with Mrs. Cupcake above). Most of the teachers at our school either do it in a day or two, or just hit the ground running with Unit 1. I am your newest follower…I look forward to learning from you this year.
