Commas and Nouns

October 2, 2012

This week, one of our focus skills is commas in a series. I had some inspiration yesterday for a little poem to use with commas. For some reason, I always think of poems or songs for my class in the shower. I’m not sure why but I hope I’m not the only one.

We are also working on nouns this week. I love teaching nouns! There is so much that you can do with it. Since this is our first week on nouns, we have been making anchor charts to use during the year.

Today we worked on people and places. It’s interesting what they come up with sometimes.

Tomorrow we are doing things and animals. I know that some people include animals as things but that is often hard for kids to see. They get confused if they are people or things so we are making a separate anchor chart for these things.
We finally got our owl paintings finished last week and I hung them up today. They turned out pretty good.  I experimented with hanging them with extra strength tape. We’ll see how many are up when I go back to school tomorrow.

In other news, I went to see my beloved Braves this weekend in Atlanta for an early birthday present. It was Chipper Jones’ last home game. It was a rainy day but a fun game.

Tomorrow’s my birthday and I am turning the big 3-0. Ugh! One my kiddos put it in perspective for me though. He told me that he wished my birthday wasn’t on Wednesday and I said, “Why not?” He said, “You are going to think you are old but you aren’t.” Made me feel a little bit better!

Have a good night friends!
