Sorry for the 2 posts in one day! I meant to save this until tomorrow but I clicked the wrong button. Anyway, I worked on the unit for "Nutik, the Wolf Pup" today and finally finished it. I know some of you are a bit ahead of me in Treasures so I hope I'm not too far behind.
I have a great freebie from this unit. My "Inferencing Song" just came to me when I was in the shower. I thought I would share it with all of you. Click on the picture to download. Enjoy!

Valentine's Game Pack

I've finished a game pack that I have been working on for a while.  Here's a preview of some of the games.  The games go over synonyms, syllables, two step word problems, verbs, and there are 2 color by code sheets for long vowel words and r-controlled vowel words.

The first person to leave me a comment with their email will win the Valentine's game pack.

Several people have asked me about the packet for "Nutik, the Wolf Pup." I'm working on it and plan to have it uploaded sometime tomorrow.
Thank you all for the sweet comments congratulating me on winning TOY. I had a rough day yesterday and your comments made me feel better. I hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

Giveaway Winner

Thank you all for entering my giveaway! I have another huge giveaway coming on February 1st with lots of other great bloggers. Congratulations to Ali, the lucky winner!

Ali--I will be emailing you about which resources that you want.

In other news, I was surprised today to learn that I won Teacher of the Year at my school. There are so many amazing teachers at my school that it's really an honor. The best part was when my principal announced it over the intercom this afternoon, most of my kiddos raced over to give me a hug. They were so excited. One of them said, "I know why you won. I think it's because you had some low kids and now they are doing great." Very insightful for an 8 year old. One of my sweeties even told me, "I love you anyway." That made me heart melt.

Hope you have a good Friday! Today, we didn't have a break due to some testing going on in the school so our schedule was way off. I'm ready to get back to normal tomorrow.

Valentine Rounding Bump

My kiddos are having a hard time with rounding in our current math unit. It's funny because my highest kids in math are so confused when rounding because they want the answer to be the exact answer.  As we keep practicing, I made a Valentine version of Bump to help them practice rounding. My students are huge fans of Bump so this will be a hit. I haven't had a chance to play it yet because my math lessons keep running long. I hope to do it tomorrow when we review for our test. You can grab a free copy at my TPT store. Click on the image to head to my store.

Don't forget to enter my 500 follower giveaway while you are visiting my blog. The giveaway ends tomorrow night! Click here to enter my giveaway.

Cause and Effect, Polar Bears and freebies for you

This week, we have been practicing cause and effect and learning about polar bears. I had actually planned on learning about several Arctic animals but my kiddos were hooked on polar bears.

I found this great book at the library and used it for teaching cause and effect. I was so excited to see that it was in the Scholastic book flier for "Favorite Authors." Don't you just love when you can find great book for cheap!
In this story, Goldilocks falls in the burrow of the hares when she was running from the 3 bears. This is funny story and your kids will love it. After reading it, my kids took a cause and effect from the story, wrote a sentence about each, and drew a picture. I just love kids' drawings.

I couldn't believe how interested my kids were in polar bears. This is the first time that I had taught about them and they couldn't get enough.
On Tuesday, we talked about our polar bear schema and read a few books about polar bears.
After we read a few book, we moved some of the post-its over to the misconceptions square.

I used several activities from Deanna Jump's Arctic Animals unit and I hope to use more when I can teach about other Arctic animals.
On Wednesday, we made a Polar bears can, have, are chart. I had already made this before I bought Deanna Jump's unit but she has one in it too.

On Thursday, we wrote about what our new learning about polar bears. The kids wrote and wrote and wrote. One little boy asked me if we could make a polar bear on Friday and "our writing paper can be the body." So, I worked on it on Thursday afternoon and this is what I came up with.

Since they wrote so many pages, I stapled the pages together at the top of a half sheet of white construction paper.  To make these polar bears, each kid needs a large sheet of white construction paper. There will be some extra space but it takes up most of the space. They also need a small piece of black construction paper.
I drew patterns on old manila folders and cut out a few for each table. The kids pass the patterns around and trace them on their paper. To make it easier on me, I write what each piece is, how many they need, and the color on top of each pattern.
I scanned my patterns and you can download them by clicking on the links below.

I had the kids make their own eyes and noses so the polar bears would be somewhat different. They also added claws to the polar bear's feet.

I've created some new resources for teachers who do not use Treasures. Many of the things in my Treasures units can be used with other reading series.  I created 3 new verb packets that are now on sale in my TPT store and Teacher's Notebook store.

Revised Bossy R Song

Somehow I linked to an old version of my Bossy R song yesterday and it has a small typo.  The version that I took screen shots of is correct but one of the words on the uploaded one was different. I have now uploaded the right version and it is available for download here. I have also fixed the link on my original post. I am sorry for the mix up!

Bossy R Song Freebie

We are working on the bossy r sound this week with er, ir, and ur. I love to introduce the phonics skill each day by singing a song that helps my kiddos remember the sound. I've noticed it really helps them with the spelling. Well, I have had a chorus in my head since the end of last week for a song that I wanted to write to sing with my kids this week. I kept forgetting to write it down but it would just come back. I decided to add some verses today and it's free for you to use in your classroom.

Have a great night!

Anchor Charts pack

One of my sweet followers asked me to create an anchor chart pack with the anchor charts I create for my Treasures packs. She teaches first grade so the Treasures packs won't work for her but would love to use the anchor charts. So, after her suggestion, I combined all my anchor charts in one resource. They are now for sale in my TPT store and Teacher's Notebook store. Currrently, the file is 99 pages and I will be adding more anchor charts as I finish my Treasures units.

The packet will usually be $10 but will be on sale until Wednesday at midnight for $8.

If you left me an comment yesterday about participating in the huge giveaway, I will be emailing you soon. It's going to be amazing!

It's not too late to participate in the giveaway, please leave me a comment with your email address. All you need to do is provide one item from your TPT store or Teacher's Notebook store.  You don't even have to teach 2nd grade.

There's a new store on TPT that you need to check out. I found Jaime on Etsy recently and loved her clipart. She is now on Teacher's Pay Teachers and Teacher's Notebook selling her clipart. Head on over and show her some love. You'll love her stuff.

Hope you have a fantastic long weekend!
