StarMallow Fun Freebies

Yesterday, I went to Target and found these fun StarMallows. I think these are supposed to be for Fourth of July but I thought these would be fun for a few math activities.

We are working on graphing and probability right now so I created two sheets to use with the StarMallows.

While you are here, don't forget to enter my giveaway for $20 in clipart from The Digital Bake Shop or a free item from my store.

I have another fun giveaway coming later this week!

Have a happy Sunday! We are having a wedding shower for my cousin and his fiancee. I spent part of yesterday making a yummy cake for the shower. I used a very easy recipe from Kevin and Amanda. Love their site!

I'm also working on a new fun unit for Scaredy Squirrel. I hope to have it posted on TPT and Teacher's Notebook later today.

Giveaway

Well, I've been a bit absent this week and it's all because of standardized testing. It's wearing me out. This is the first time that we've tested in 2nd grade in a while. Needless to say, Friday can't get here soon enough. 2 more days!
I'm excited to announce a great clipart giveaway. Jaime at Digital Bake Shop has graciously donated $20 in clipart from her shop.  She has the cutest stuff so this is an awesome prize for a fabulous follower.

I am also giving away one item from my TPT or Teacher's Notebook store to 3 people. The giveaway will end on Wednesday, May 2nd. Good luck to all!

My New Favorite Toy

I received an exciting thing in the mail this week -- a Easi-Speak Recordable Microphone from Learning Resources.

I won it during Jenn from Finally in First's giveaway week.  This thing is amazing. It is about the size of my hand and has so many uses.   I was amazed to find out all that it can do.

I started doing book clubs this week. About this time of year, I get so tired of doing reading groups and so do the kids. This is a great way for my kiddos to keep on reading but in a different way. I've been using Hilary's Book Clubs packet.  I absolutely love the layout of this. It keeps the kids interested and really thinking.

My kids are so excited to be reading their books. We are reading The Chocolate Touch, Magic Tree House: Vacation Under a Volcano, and Ramona Quimby, Age 8. Well, needless to say, my struggling readers cannot read these books and I racked my brain trying to find a way to include them in a group. The Easi-Speak Microphone saved the day. I read the chapters into the microphone, recording each one separately. All I had to do after that is plug the microphone into the USB port on my computer. I imported the recordings into iTunes and they are all ready to go.  After their book club meets and decides on what to read for the next time, I let my struggling readers listen to the chapters on the computer as they follow along in their book. They really loved being included and being able to read a chapter book.
Have you tried out the Easi-Speak Microphone? What do you use it for?

Great New Book

I found this great new book at my local library and just had to share. It's called "Shark vs. Train" by Chris Barton.

In this book, a shark and a train go against each other in various challenges.  All the kids loved this book, especially the boys. They have asked me to read it everyday. Last week, I was teaching judgments so I had the kids design their own challenges for the shark and the train. Then, they had to write who would win and justify their judgment.  This is the first and only time that we have taught judgments this year but, basically, it's just an opinion with a reason.  My kiddos came up with some good challenges.  I totally forgot to take pictures but I will try to remember tomorrow. My favorite was a thumb wrestling contest that neither the shark or train would win because they don't have thumbs. Too cute!

We are comparing and contrasting this week so this book will come in handy again. Have a great night!

End of the Year Gift Linky Party

I don't know about you but I love giving my students fun gifts at the end of the year. I've seen tons of great ideas on Pinterest but I would love to see what you do for your kiddos. So I'm hosting an End of the Year Gift Linky Party.
Grab a copy of this image to place on your blog post to spread the word about the linky party.

Here's what I did last year:
I bought some red plastic cups at Walmart. I think they were like 4 for a dollar.  I bought some random things that I put in the cups. I included some fun pencils, erasers, 3 dice,
On the cups, I put this cute little poem that I found online.  I printed the poems on large labels and attached them to the cups. I tried to make it so the kids could wash their cups but it just wasn't working for me. After I finished with the inside stuff and the label, I wrapped the cup in blue cellophane and tied it at the top.  With the gift, I included some BUMP game boards and some fun summer activities.

I created a label for this year with a poem that I wrote for the end of the year. I loved the one that I found online last year but it was a bit too long for the labels. To use these labels, download a copy and print on Avery 4"x 2" shipping labels.

Today, I went to Target and found some beach balls that were 97 cents so I got a supply for my class. I plan on giving to them on the last day of school and letting all the kids sign each other's beach balls. If you have time and help. you could also have them do hand prints on the beach balls. So fun and a great summer present! I plan on attaching this card with the beach balls.

This is what I am planning this year but I may change my mind depending on what you share. I can't wait to see your gift ideas!
I would also love to see what you do if you make gifts for your students' parents at the end of the year.

Tax Day Sale

My Teacher's Notebook store is also 15% off.
My sales will run through tomorrow.
Happy shopping!

Last Treasures Unit is Finished!

I'm finally finished with all the Treasures units. That's a big signal to me that the end of the year is almost here. We have 2 more units to teach, a week of testing, and a few fun weeks and we are finished!
The last unit in our Treasures series is "Babu's Song." It's a really sweet story.
Here's a preview of a few things from the unit:

I plan on going back and updating my first few units. I've learned how to do so many more things by playing around so I want them to look consistent with my last units. After I do that, I am considering bumping up the price of all the Treasures units. I've been looking at some pricing guides and many of them suggest at least $5 for items that are similar to what I'm creating. I plan on leaving them $3 until I get them all updated.
I'm also the featured teacher this week on Teacher's Notebook. I was totally suprised when I opened up my newsletter from them and saw that my shop was featured. So very exciting!

To celebrate my good news, I will give the first 5 people who comment any item (under $5) that they want from my store.  I will get your resources to you sometime tomorrow.

Have a good night! I'll be back tomorrow with a great linky party.

It's Time for a Freebie and Some Cuteness!

Today was the first day of our unit on time. I love teaching about time even though it can be hard for some of the kiddos to grasp the concept. To help them better understand how time works, I made a large clock on my math bulletin board with a hula hoop. I found a similar idea on Pinterest and adapted it to fit into my classroom.

This was taken before my lesson today. During the lesson today, we went over what each number on the clock stands for when we are counting by fives. I had the kids come up and put the numbers outside of the hula hoop. I did these numbers on a different color so the kids would have an easier time telling the difference.
You can grab a copy of the numbers and the clock hands here.
I also had the kiddos make their own clock using Amy Lemon's time unit. I love this unit! They had so much fun making a clock.

I don't know about you but my kids always have trouble telling what hour it is when the hour hand is between the two numbers. I really stressed that today and we will keep practicing that skill for sure.

Here's for the cuteness:

We've been working on reality and fantasy so we read Russell the Sheep. I love this book. So adorable! We made a chart to sort between reality and fantasy with this book.

We've also been working on adjectives the past few weeks.
I used Lesson Plan SOS' activity "Awesome Adjectives that Describe Me."  These always turn out so good! We also practiced on how to properly draw faces.

 This one cracks me up!

I love Abby's "Let's Get Poppin' With Adjectives!" This is so much fun.

These cute little bunnies from from A Cupcake for the Teacher are absolutely adorable and so easy to make. One of my kiddos even said that this was the easiest craft that we ever made. Haha! I guess I'm usually more complicated but I love how easy this one was.

I hope you are having a great day! I have morning bus duty this week and it is my last time for the year. So pumped about that! And I just so happened to get a four day week this time.

Coming next week....

Get your posts ready! I can't wait to see what you do in your classroom!

New Treasures Unit

Hello friends! Hope you had a wonderful Easter! I spent some time in Nashville with my family. We didn't have school today so I spent most of my day running errands. I finally mailed my taxes and that is a load off.
I finished the unit for "African-American Inventors" today. It is now posted on TPT and Teacher's Notebook. Only 1 more Treasures unit to go!

Back to the grind tomorrow, ugh!! Only 6 more weeks of school. I think I can. I think I can.

Great giveaway

Jenn over at Finally in First is having an awesome giveaway week.  5 giveaways in 5 days! Wow! The item for today is awesome so be sure to check it out.
Click on the button above to head over to her giveaway.

Hope you had a great Monday! I'm counting down the days this week. I am going to see Cirque du Soleil on Wednesday night and I am super excited. I absolutely love Cirque du Soleil. I have to work to keep my mouth from hanging open the entire time. I just don't know how they do half that stuff.
We also have a short week this week. Just one day less during the week makes the week seem almost tolerable.

FYI - I'm planning a great linky party for April so keep posted. It's not quite ready yet but I just wanted to share it with you. I hope to have it ready in the next few weeks.

Currently April

I would love to be invisible because I can't seem to walk down the hall at school without someone telling me a computer problem. It gets to be a little too much sometimes.

Link up with Farley at Oh Boy Fourth Grade.

Have a good Sunday!
