Bookworms: That is Not a Good Idea

I have been at a loss with what to blog about lately. The end of school was crazy with me being sick and having so much to do. Thankfully, I am now off for the summer so I thought I would start weekly feature about books.

I am a huge children's literature fan. The Scholastic warehouse near me had a big sale recently and I am a sucker for new books. I saw this book by Mo Willems there and just had to get it. I love the Pigeon books and I knew my kiddos would like this one.

This book is kind of set up like an old silent movie with the illustrations on one page and the words on the next page. This book has very simple text so it would be great for predicting, making inferences, and drawing conclusions.

I've made some freebies to go with this book. Click on the image below to grab the freebies.

If you are looking for a good read for summer, I just finished reading "And the Mountains Echoed." It was an amazing book! I couldn't put it down and I was sad when it was over. I highly recommend it! I borrowed it from my local library and I loved it so much that I went out and bought it when I was finished.

So what do you think of this weekly feature? Do you have any book suggestions?

Five for Friday (May 24th)

It's Friday so it's time for Five for Friday!

We had part of the week with kiddos. They came to school until a half day on Wednesday. So we spent this week wrapping up our year.

I gave my students books for their end of the year present.  I didn't take the time to make the gift cutesy like last year because I have been sick for over a week and didn't want to fool with it.

We made the time capsules from Hope King's End of the Year writing bundle.
I loved to see what the kids thought they would accomplish by the time they graduate in 2023 (crazy!!!).  One of my sweeties knew he would see Iron Man 3 before he graduates.  I loved that one of my kids knew he wouldn't have glasses by then and another would be able to text.
I going to miss these kids so much! My school only goes to 2nd grade so the end of the school year is a bittersweet time.

Here's what my room looked like today. We had a teacher work day yesterday and until noon today to get our rooms ready for summer. It's so weird to see the classroom look this empty.

I was so bored waiting for noon to get here today that I decided to change my calendar to August. One step ahead!

First thing I did on my first afternoon off -- take a nap!

In other news, I have been selected as a guest pinner for The Container Store until September.

Summer Bucket List 2013

I am officially on summer vacation so it's time to think about what I want to do all summer. I'm linking up with 3 of my favorite bloggers to share my summer bucket list.

(1) Get some sleep!
I am looking forward to sleeping later than 5:00 and taking naps during the day.

(2) Work on my condo.
I want to put my condo on the market in the near future so I need to do some work this summer. I want to put a backsplash in my kitchen but I'm having trouble deciding which one.

I like these two different ideas from

(3) Read, read, read!
Is it sad that I am so excited about summer because I can actually read a book? I love to read but never seem to have time during the school year. I have an entire bookshelf of books waiting for summer to get here. One more day of work!

Here are some books that I am planning on reading this summer:

Are you on Goodreads? You can become my friend by clicking here and adding me as a friend.

(4) Spend time with my family.

Who wouldn't want to spend time with this cutie?

(5) Figure out how to use my Silhouette Cameo. I've had it for a while but I've never had the time to do things besides cut out basic letters and shapes.

Love this owl from Crafting 4 Fun!

Well, I think that's it. I'm sure I'll think of more things as summer begins.

End of the Year Gifts

It's that crazy time of year - the end of school. My room is a complete disaster because I've been trying to organize as I clean. I never got organized before school started because I moved classrooms. I really want to be more organized next school year.
Anyways, I've been thinking lately about end of the year gifts for my kiddos. Don't hate me but I only have 7 1/2 days left with the kids. I always try to get my kiddos a book but the other parts change each year.
Since I have some new followers since last spring, I thought you might be interested in viewing my linky party for end of the year gifts. There are some awesome ideas that are linked up.

Here is a freebie that I made for the end of the year. You can find them by clicking on the image above to view the original post.
I've updated the gift tag I created for this school year. You can find the updated version for free on TPT.

Here are some other ideas you can find in the linky party:

Five for Friday

It's finally Friday and it's time for Five for Friday. Did anyone else think this week crawled by?

I got a new car last Saturday. I wasn't intending to buy one yet. I was shooting for late May but I couldn't pass this one up.  I have always driven a car so it's been weird for me to drive higher up but I am loving it!

We read a couple Scaredy Squirrel books this week. My kids loved the new "Scaredy Squirrel Goes Camping." We made a list of some things that Scaredy Squirrel would be scared of out in the wilderness. Some of my kids also made a packing list for him.

We've been doing a camping theme this week with lots of activities from Cara Carroll's camping unit. This is a darling unit that you should definitely check out.

We wrapped up our unit with S'mores today. It was hilarious seeing the kids eat them.

Enjoy your weekend friends!

Summer Addition and Subtraction Centers and TPT Sale

If your kiddos are like mine, they can use all the addition and subtraction help they can get. Before summer, I want to review all the things that we have learned about addition and subtraction this year. So I made some summer addition and subtraction centers. This pack includes 8 different games covering related facts, two-digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping, and three-digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping.

Did you know that the big TPT Teacher Appreciation Sale is happening this week? My entire store is 20% and you can get an extra discount by entering the code TAD13 at checkout. Click on the banner below to head to my store.

The Hat Hijacker and Summer Word Searches

I've had some requests to make another inferencing activity like my "The Shoe Snatcher" packet so I created "The Hat Hijacker."

It is a similar concept to the Shoe Snatcher packet so it would be very easy to use this packet if you already have used the other pack.

You can find this new pack in my TPT store by clicking on any of the images above.

I've also added some fun summer word search freebies to my store.

Currently May

It's May! Hallelujah! I love May! It's time for May's currently over at Oh' Boy 4th grade.

I love watching Ellen when I get home from school. It puts me in a good mood.  We have been testing all week and tomorrow is the last day. I am so ready for it to be over with!

I feel like I am getting sick so I am going to spend the night resting even though I am going to miss my favorite spin class. My kiddos are coming down with strep and they are constantly blowing their noses. Welcome to spring in Knoxville. We are the #2 city in the United States for allergies so I can't ever tell if I am getting sick or my allergies are bad for that day.

I can't wait for summer.  In the summer, I can't wait to read. I love reading but I never have the time during the school year. I am looking at getting a new car that I hope to have at the end of May. I can't wait to visit my adorable nephew during the summer. He's growing so fast and he already looks so different from when I saw him last.

What are you looking forward to this summer?
