It’s time to introduce you to my newest labor of love. It’s taken me quite a bit of time to finish this one and I’m really proud of how it turned out. The main reason that I came up with this is because I can’t ever remember to have something ready to close my lessons. We have drop in observations and I’m always scrambling trying to think of something to close the lesson. Not a good feeling! Anyway, I came up with these half sheets that address the Common Core ELA standards for 2nd grade. I’ve included over 100 prepared questions and an editable template for you to create your own questions.
Here’s an example of what the sheets look like.
I’ve also included an editable template for a gradebook or checklist that you can use to assess your students’ answers.
If you prefer another color for the covers, I’ve included a black and white version that you can print on colored paper.
Here’s how I’m organizing my Wrap Ups:
I got a 2 inch binder with a clear view front. I put the title page on the front and the spine inserts on the spine. The spine inserts are easier to insert if you print them on cardstock.
I printed the section headers and put them in my notebook. I used some of that new pretty Scotch tape to show the different sections. You could also use labels or tabs. I’ll probably add tabs later but I didn’t have any at home.
I copied the sheets and put them in clear sheet protectors. I ran off a copy of one to show you how I’m going to organize it. I chopped each page in half. I put the top prompt in the front of the sheet protector and the bottom prompt in the back.
Now I’m partly ready for those drop in observations!
You can check out these out by clicking on any of the images or clicking here.
I am so excited that I found your blog. I am a 2nd year (2nd grade) teacher. Although I am excited about the CC, I am really worried about it too. Seeing all of your resources has really helped to put my mind at ease. Thank you for making your hard work available to others.

These look terrific! From a teacher perspective, I love how you tied them to the CC and organized them. From a student perspective, I think they'll love how fast they are to complete. Regardless, they are packed full of formative information for daily teaching while giving me an edge up during those unannounced observations.
