Back to School Madness + Super September Centers

August 11, 2013

Hello friends! Sorry for my absence from the blogging world this week. This past week was my first week at school. We had meetings and time in our room during the week and finished with a Meet and Greet on Friday afternoon. It’s sad that I’m already exhausted! Getting my room ready with a walking boot is no joke. My leg felt like it was 20 pound by the end of the week.
Tomorrow is my first day with kids! I completely forgot to take pictures of my classroom so I will be sure to do that this week. It’s come a long way in a week.

I thought I would share with you what I am going to do this first week with my students. It always helps me to see other people’s ideas.

For math, I am doing almost all of the activities from Amy Lemons’ “Let’s Get Started” pack.

This pack has wonderful activities to introduce students to math. This is definitely something you should purchase from TPT to get your math started the right way.

For ELA, I plan on reading lots of back to school books. One of my favorite books for back to school is “Back to School, Splat.” I am using my “Back to School with Books” pack and letting my students make Splat and having them describe one of their summer adventures. My kids loved making Splat last year!

I will also be doing some other activities from my “Back to School with Books” unit during the week.

We will also be working on building some character. One activity that I found on Pinterest that I love was the wrinkled heart activity.

I’m not sure where this is from. If it’s yours, please let me know so I can give you credit.
We will be reading these books this week as we talk about character.

I hope to share more as the week goes on. I’m going to be working on more of my weekly plans today.

In other news, I finished my Super September centers. I hope this helps all of you that really plan ahead. Click on any image to head to my TPT store.

Have a great week!

  1. I appreciate your blog! I am a combined second and third grade teacher and this week I will be getting my classroom ready on a knee walker, so I can appreciate the work that goes into getting the room ready with a boot. I hope to be in a boot by the time I start school, but I don't think so. Surgery this Thursday and school starts Aug. 28th.

  2. I do that wrinkled heart activity every year! I learned about it many years ago when I took an anti-bullying workshop. Sometimes, I even do it again later in the year if the kids are having a hard time getting along. I tell the kids to do the activity at home with their families if they want, too.

Sorry about your foot – that must be uncomfortable and bulky, for sure.

  3. I found the wrinkled heart along with the Red Plate club on a great site years ago but I think it's gone now. It was something like Sewwhat4u. Anyway, this site had great tips and materials all for free. If anyone knows of it then please correct me.
