Visual Plans (Nov. 18)

I'm dropping by with a quick post to share my visual plans for the week. I have caught a cold for the weekend and cold medicine makes me loopy so I'm going to keep this short because there is no telling what I'll type.

I'm so excited about the skills I am teaching this week and the activities that we will be doing.

The books I am using this week are:

This Smart Words reader is from Scholastic. Click on it to view it as an ebook.

In other news, my Full of Thanks centers and activities are on sale for today only. This is a 200 page pack with 10 literacy centers, book activities, and crafts. I recently updated many of the centers so if you've already purchased it, you may want to download it again.

Have a great Sunday!

Drawing Conclusions (with a freebie)

Shew! So glad it's almost the weekend! Does anybody else think that Thanksgiving can't get here soon enough? I'm in need of some serious rest.

We have been drawing conclusions this week (which to me is just another way to teach inferring).

One great book that I found to teach drawing conclusions (or inferring) is "Clothesline Clues to Jobs People Do." I read it to my kiddos on Monday and we used text clues and our prior knowledge to draw conclusions.

To encourage a little creativity, I drew a clothesline on a piece of paper and let my kiddos come up with clues for their future job. These turned out pretty good but we are working on drawing things a little bigger to fit the paper.

This job was a zookeeper. See the cage, timer, obstacle course, treats, X-ray, and shot.
This one was a teacher. I'm not so sure about the hat but I guess the apple, iPad, and pencil go with the job.
This student wants to be an artist. She drew a smock, painting, beret, and paint cups.
I had a hard time guessing this one. He has a suit, sunglasses, and a truck. We talked about him drawing a badge also. He wants to be a secret agent.

We also read "David Goes to School" today. Since this is an easy book for them to read, it helps them use the pictures and words to draw conclusions. Plus some of them have a lot of background knowledge about getting in trouble in school. :)

We stopped after every page and added our background knowledge and our conclusions to an anchor chart. (I forgot to take a picture of it today. Sorry!) Basically, our anchor chart was just a large version of the page below with some of the earlier pages listed.

Well, that's it for tonight folks. Have a wonderful Friday!

Visual Plans (Nov. 11)

Happy Sunday! I don't know about you but I start to get Mondayitis about this time each Sunday.  After a long week like last week, I could use an extra day on the weekend. I'm sure some of you have Veteran's day off tomorrow and I am super jealous!

I'm linking up with Mrs. Wills Kindergarten to share my plans.

Here are my plans for this week:

I am using these books this week.

If you download my plans, please leave me a comment. These take me forever to make so I would love to know if it's helpful to others.

Have a good week!

Visual Plans (Nov.4)

Happy November! I hope you survived all the Halloween madness last week with your sanity intact.  I had my unannounced observation last week and I am so thrilled that it is over with. I can now relax some and not get nervous every time the door opens.
We had some fun last week learning about inferences. I used my If the Shoe Fits pack as an introduction and then use Halle's Costume Clues unit on Halloween. You should definitely check out these units if you are teaching inferencing.

Back to my visual plans, I'm sorry that I didn't get my plans posted last weekend. I went to Nashville to visit my nephew (and his parents) and didn't get time to work on them. I don't know about y'all but this school year has been super crazy and, unfortunately, I haven't had time to blog or create things like I want.

Now on to this week's plans. Our skills are author's purpose, questioning, long e (ee, ea, y, e) words, verbs, and mental addition. We also have to do a research project for my district so we won't have much time for unit. I didn't finish my spider unit last week so I am going to throw that in if we have extra time.

I have a huge pack of math freebies that I made for this unit linked on the plans. Click on the images to download the plans and then you can get the freebies and links to other ideas.

The books that I am using this week are:

I am linking up with Mrs. Wills Kindergarten to share my plans. Be sure to check out the other visual plans there. Such great ideas!

I hope you have a great week! I'm off to watch this week's Scandal. Is anyone else as obsessed with this show as I am?
