ABCs of 2nd Grade

Hey everyone! Happy Saturday! I am stopping by to let you know that I will be starting a new blog series next week. Each week, I will focus on a different letter with some freebies and tips. Don't teach 2nd grade? Don't worry! Most of the tips won't be grade specific.

Do you have any suggestions for the different letters? I have a plan but I am willing to change it if there is something you would rather read about than what I have. Please leave me a comment if you have any ideas. Have a great weekend!

Check out my first post in the series - A is for Accountable Talk.

Start Your Year Bright with C. Jayne Teach (with a Giveaway)

I have a confession. I am a planner snob. I love, love, love getting new planners. Strange, I know, but I rarely ever use them. I couldn't find one that has enough room to write and has everything I need included. I've tried several different versions from great companies but they just didn't meet my needs. I always knew that I could type my plans but I really like writing them down.

Then came The Teacher Anchor from my fellow Tennessean, Chandra of C. Jayne Teach. I was in love. This thing has everything that I needed plus more.
It had enough room to write, small group planning pages, pages for data tracking, and so much more. I was so impressed that I didn't even want to write in it for a while. I was afraid that I would mess up the perfection.

This year, I am looking forward to purchasing another Teacher Anchor. Chandra from C. Jayne Teach has worked hard to get the Teacher Anchor even better. One thing that I had trouble with when using the Teacher Anchor was how large it was to carry it around to meetings and home to plan. Chandra has come up with a solution. She put the planning pages into a smaller spiral bound notebook that fits in the Teacher Anchor and also can be removed. Genius!

I love the layout of the planner. You can really tell it was designed by a teacher.

One of the new things that I am also excited about are the stickers. What teacher doesn't love stickers?  Best news of all, the Teacher Anchor now ships for free. Awesome!

What I didn't know was that Chandra also sells other items in her store that are perfect for teachers. She sent me a box of these goodies to try out.

I love the bright colors in this new collection. Check out my cute polka dot folder below and the bright library labels.

I was surprised how sturdy the Gold Star Note Cards  are and I know my students will love receiving these as a special note.

This large notepad is perfect for writing down those things that tend to get forgotten (at least by me) on a daily basis. By large, I mean this notepad is larger than a sheet of paper. Definitely enough room to write down notes for an entire week.

Here's the part you've been waiting for. Chandra has generously agreed to donate a personalized item for a giveaway. You can also win an item of your choice from my store. You can enter in the Rafflecopter below.

Dive On In (Investigate the Ocean)

This week is our state testing. I thought I was fine with it but I've had nightmares about it for the past 2 nights. I will be so glad when Thursday is over. The week after testing, I finally, finally, get to do my favorite unit of the year...the ocean! I look forward to this week for the entire year. Not only because I love teaching about the ocean but because it signals that the end is near.

I have so many ocean books that it is hard to fit them into a week. I have been using a hodgepodge of resources for the last few years. This year, I decided to create a unit with the things that I need.  There are 9 different animals focused on in this unit. I try to do a different ocean animal each day but I won't have the time this year to do 9 days worth.

I created fact sheets that we can use to extend the books I have or in case that you don't have any books on that ocean creature.

I also made a center featuring each ocean creature so you can keep those kiddos busy learning with an ocean focus.

I made some small books to use during the unit. We will read "One Tiny Turtle" by Nichola Davies and talk about the life cycle of a sea turtle. We will wrap up our unit with the Ocean Creature fact book. I know the kiddos will love keeping this to remember what they have learned.
I will be adding in crafts from A Cupcake from the Teacher. Her crafts are so cute that there was no need for me to make my own.

Amy Lemon also has some great whale freebies that I am going to use.

If you are looking for more ideas for teaching about the ocean, be sure to follow my Pinterest board.

Also, in case you missed it, I'm having a big giveaway on my Facebook page. Be sure to check it out.
