Teacher Week 2015: 5 Fun Facts

I'm linking up with Bloghoppin today to share 5 fun facts about myself.

(1) I love white chocolate. There was a room mom when I was in elementary school that made us homemade suckers from white chocolate and that got me obsessed.

(2) I went to France and Germany in high school and the only thing I can really remember is what I ate. Most of my pictures did not survive. I really wish I had a digital camera back then.

(3) I have a new puppy named Toby. If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen a few photos of him. He's a 5 month-old Beagle mix. I got him for a shelter so they aren't sure what he's mixed with. I'm thinking lab or golden retriever.

(4) I love sports but I never wanted to play them myself. I am not coordinated enough! I'm so excited for football season.

(5) I just started back to school to get my ED.S. I'm not sure what I was thinking because I had no time anyway. So here's hoping that I can get through the next two years. I finished my Masters a while ago and I'm trying to get back in the habit of writing papers again.

While you're here, head over to my post from Saturday and win some earrings from "The Little Mermaid."  Click here.

Visual Plans (Aug. 31)

Okay, friends, I'm back sharing my visual plans for this week. I just took last year's visual plans for the week of September 1st and added an extra day of activities. Labor Day was earlier last year. I'm really looking forward to that three day weekend next week.

This week, we are working on story elements, subjects and predicates, blends, and subtraction strategies.  As always, you can click on these plans to download them and access the links for books and activities.
We will also be singing my story elements and subject/predicate songs from my Singing through the Year pack. I forgot to add that into the plans.

If you download these, please be kind and leave a comment. This helps me track if these are actually helpful to post each week.

I'm linking up my post with Mrs. Wills Kindergarten. Check out some other awesome weekly plans at her linky party.

Have a great week!

Trashy Crafter Earring Giveaway

Hello everyone! I am stopping by today to share a fun giveaway with you. I am a huge fan of the Trashy Crafter. She repurposes damaged books and makes them into amazing jewelry.

I have two of her book bracelets and a lanyard. These are amazing and I get compliments on them all the time.
Kim is the creator of Trashy Crafter. She works with her family and friends to create one-of-a-kind book jewelry because she didn't want to see books in a landfill. In her ETSY shop, she usually has items created from around 50 different books. It's a great gift to give others especially retiring teachers or friends who love certain books. She even uses maps of favorite places to create jewelry.

I really love that she sends her products wrapped in recycled maps and books.
So creative!

Kim's newest creation are book earrings. Here are a few of her recent creations.

She sent me a pair from "The Little Mermaid" book. I love the colors of these and they look great with so many different outfits.

Kim has graciously agreed to give away a pair of earrings to one lucky blog reader.
These earrings are also from "The Little Mermaid."

Classroom Reveal 2015

It's teacher week and I'm sharing my classroom in Bloghoppin's linky party. I love checking out other people's classrooms.

Okay, it's time for my classroom reveal for 2015. Let me level with you first, my room is not "done." We had to pack up everything for the summer and got new floors so I spent lots of time unpacking. My bulletin boards are missing letters and I've done some strategic shoving but it was good enough to start the year with my kiddos today.

This is the view from my door. I've rearranged quite a bit this year and I'm loving the arrangement.

I'm loving my storage bin seats. I got the idea from Mrs. Wills Kindergarten.

My new magnetic board. The letters and numbers are a little funky so please ignore that.

My classroom library is my favorite spot in the room. It's so cozy with my new gray accents and the white bookshelves.

All the buntings are from Target. Most of them are from the party section. A few of them are from the Dollar Spot.

As I said before, my bulletin boards have not letters yet but that's totally okay. I got the mirrored stars idea from Amy Lemons. These are so fun and they are peel and stick. Plus isn't my little owl face cute. I have no idea what's going on this board but I just love the owl.

The bags at each of the desks are for student supplies that come in. Such an easy way to get them organized and see who has brought them in.

These owl beanbags are so soft! I got them from Hayneedle.

My little gray toy bench was a clearance find from HomeGoods. Perfect for my color scheme!

So today was the first day and I'm exhausted! Off to bed for this tired teacher.

My Favorites for the First Week Back

It's August so you know what that means - every teacher is thinking about going back to school. My first inservice day is tomorrow and the kids start back next Monday.

Today, I thought I'd share my favorite back to school resources.
This is one of my new packs to go along with the story, "Chu's First day of School." This is a really cute story and it deals with nervousness over the first day and how everyone is unique.
Love Abby's pack for the first day. My kiddos always love the Jitter Juice poem and recipe. Great way to kick off the year!

Amy's pack is the perfect way to introduce math for the year. I love the Tools vs. Toys lesson and the math puzzles.

This is another of my new packs. Who doesn't love the Pout-Pout fish? This story can be used to talk about how everyone is smart in different ways and perseverance.

Lyndsey always has great ideas and this is a great one for back to school.
"You're Finally Here" is a really cute story. I love Linda's pack for it. I also have some activities for it in my Back to School with Books pack There are some other great activities for a few more back to school books. I particularly love the Splat the Cat activities.

Classroom community is a great thing to build during the first week. Kristen's pack has some great activities. I also love Lyndsey's ideas for building a love of reading in your classroom and encouraging independence.

Kelley's new back to school songs are amazing. And, while we're singing, why not throw in some content specific songs from my Singing through the Year pack.

I love Denise's monthly journals. They are thought-provoking and the kids love writing with these. Stephanie's pack is amazing too. I especially love her activity for "Everyone is Smart." The kiddos really love the bracelets for this.

What are your favorites for the first week back to school?

Don't forget. TPT is having a sale Monday and Tuesday so it would be a great time to stock up on some of these great packs.
